Dr MG Deo (Padmashree), a graduate of Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior, was Professor of Pathology at AIIMS in the late 1970’s and later the Director of Cancer Research Institute, Mumbai. The Moving Academy of Medicine and Biomedicine (MAMB, Pune), which was established in 2001 in collaboration with other scientists, has developed a novel program of “Mobile workshops” that takes new knowledge to students’ doorsteps. It also developed the concept of National Medical Students’ Research Conference to promote research culture amongst young medicos. The first conference was held in 2006 in Pune and the next two (International ones) were held in South India.

The “Foundation Workshop on Clinical and Laboratory Medicine” for undergraduate students is being conducted at UCMS in August 2010. With help from ICMR, the current workshop on 17-19 August will target recipient’s of the ICMR  Short term Studentship (STS) for the year 2010. Dr Deo’s external faculty mostly consists of Scientists and Doctors from ICMR and AIIMS; however, at the workshop in UCMS, many sessions will be managed by the experienced and talented UCMS faculty.
